Unexpected or First Time Pregnancy? Scared & Don’t Know What to Do?

Unplanned pregnancy, we understand. An unexpected pregnancy changes everything but there are pregnancy options. A pregnancy that is unplanned may seem like the end of the world. If you are a Teen do your parents know? Do you want to discuss how to tell them? Does the baby’s father know? Is your family likely to be supportive or the opposite? Take a deep breath. Call us and we will help you decide what to do next.

Pregnancy Options Program

The Florida Adoption Center provides comprehensive resources, referrals, and services to all expectant/birth parents experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. The staff of the Florida Adoption Center will provide educational sessions, community referrals, and connections. In addition, expectant/birth parents will be offered an opportunity to make a personalized pregnancy plan and have the opportunity to receive counseling throughout the process. The Agency provides comprehensive services through a network of community agencies, businesses, government, and community partners.

Adoption support includes pregnancy options counseling, pre and post-adoption counseling, case management, resources, and financial and emotional support. Initially, expectant/birth parents will be offered the opportunity to explore all options in a caring and non-judgmental environment. Together, we will explore your feelings, circumstances, and available options, including parenting (single or jointly), or making a customized adoption plan. The services of a pregnancy counselor will be made available to assist in the decision-making process. Group counseling may also be offered.

We Can Help You

The Staff of the Florida Adoption Center will help you access resources. Client’s entering our Adoption Program may be eligible for financial support, reasonable living, and maternity expenses, as allowed by law. We are committed to helping you have a healthy newborn. We will assist you with Medicaid applications, accessing prenatal care, and will provide education on topics such as the effects of prescription medications on the unborn child, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, substance treatment options, managing your addictions while pregnant, and much more. We offer a non-judgmental environment where you can openly discuss your lifestyle without fear of criticism.

Picking A Family

If you as expectant/birth parents decide on a Personalize Adoption Plan, our caring staff will help you select a family for your child. We have waiting families that are ready for an Open, Semi-open, or Closed adoption. We will provide a choice of adoption-ready families and will help select a family that is right for the child. We will offer the opportunity to select a family, meet them if desired, and allow expectant/birth parents to make the final choice.

Asking Questions About Adoption

If you have Adoption Questions you have found the right place, Florida Adoption Center.  We can answer questions you might have like: How does adoption work?  Is it too late for adoption?  How do I put a baby up for adoption?  What if my child is already born, can I still do adoption?

Pregnant? Adoption? How do I get started?

Make sure you ask ALL the questions you may have; Some may include the following:  Can I meet with someone more than once before I make the decision?  Will I have to meet in person, or can I get information over the phone or via text? Can I get copies of all the documents I sign?  Is the agency licensed?  

Do you help with rent?  How We Help: How do I enter the Adoption Program and start services? Do I have to give background information? Do we meet or have weekly contact/visits? Are there Case management services to address housing, employment, transportation, and substance abuse issues? Is it Communications via phone or face to face? Can I get transportation to prenatal care appointments? Do I get gift cards for food, toiletries, clothes and other reasonable living expenses?

Can I get Counseling? What are the Core Issues In Adoption? Can I get counseling during my pregnancy before I give up my baby? Can I get counseling after the baby is with the adoptive family? 

Do I have to go to the Doctor’s? / What about Healthcare? Do I have to start/continue to receive prenatal care? Can I get transportation to and from these appointments?

Can I pick a family for my baby? I want to pick the family for my baby? How do I connect with families ready to adopt? How do I pick a family? I need counseling, when do I start adoption competent counseling/ Openness Counseling for future contact? Do you help me to develop a relationship with the adoptive family?

Can I see my baby at the hospital? I want to spend time with my baby? What is a Hospital Plan? Are consents usually signed at the hospital? What happens at the hospital? Does the baby go home with the adoptive family from the hospital? I don’t want the Adoptive Parents in the hospital room, can you make sure I get time with the baby? Do I have to decide ahead of time what I want to happen at the hospital?  Can I make the birth plan, decide who is present there, and will the nurses be educated about adoption and will they respect my wishes? If I want to take my baby home for a short time, is that allowed?

I want an Open Adoption, will I be able to stay in touch with my baby? / How will I know my baby is ok? Can I have visits with the baby and family? What is Child Connect? What are the Adoption Agreement Types: Open, Semi-open and Closed adoption options? What is an Open Adoption Future Communication Agreement? Can I get a copy of the original birth certificate? What are Post Placement Supervision Visits? 

What if my baby is in foster care, can I still have an open adoption?  / Interventions What if I have an open case plan, can you help me do adoption? Can you intervene if you have an open case plan, so I can pick a family for my baby and have a future relationship?

Teen Pregnancy: We will help you discuss your situation with your parents.

Do I have to know who the father is? Father of my baby and his rights? Will you explain the Putative Father search, Non-paternity Affidavit, Service of Paperwork, and Diligent Search process?

If I’m in jail, can I do adoption? Can you help if I have the baby while in jail?

What are the legal parts of the adoption? What are the TPR and Finalization court hearings?

Is it against the law if I change my mind?  Adoption Fraud: Is it ok to change my mind?  If I change my mind and decide to keep my baby, do I have to repay the money?, If I change my mind and decide to keep the baby, are there legal issues or charges against me? Are there resources available if I decide to keep my baby? What is Adoption Fraud?
