Semi-closed or semi-open adoptions, are just two different ways of saying the same thing. We prefer to use the term Semi-Open Adoption. In a Semi-Open adoption, birth parents and adoptive parents may meet in person, but no identifying information is exchanged. Usually, each party will refer to the other by first names only. Any medical records released to the Adoptive Parents, with Birth Moms permission, will have all identifying information redacted (erased). In the future, any updates provided to the Birth Parents will not contain any identifying information. In this situation updates and pictures would be sent to the agency and shared with Birth Parents by the agency.
